Leadership skills are considered to be significant for aspiring leaders and the individuals who want to acquire a top position in the career prospect. According to Olson(2020), for becoming an efficient leader, an individual needs to continuously improve on the existing skills. Development of career depends on the willingness of the individuals to adopt new skills and gain a varied range of knowledge in diverse field. Leaders are required to possess soft and hard skills. Although it can be predicted that soft skills are acquired since birth by the individuals whereas hard skills are required to be learnt by individuals to accomplish different business operations (Artamonova et al., 2019). Some of the soft skills include decision making, interpersonal, strong work ethics, and problem-solving and customer service skills. On the other hand, hard skills involve computer skills, management, presentation skills, marketing skills, analytical skills, and project management skills. Emphasising on the soft skills, it can be predicted that some of the skills can be acquired since birth however there are numerous skills that are to be learnt by the individuals for attaining adequate leadership qualities (Sousa and Rocha, 2019). Relating to this, it can also be added that none of the individuals acquires the aforementioned hard skills since birth; they need to learn the same for becoming proficient in their respective areas.

Corresponding to the above-mentioned information, it can be stated that individuals can learn new skills and gain knowledge through a variety of learning activities. For this, the aspiring leaders might undertake continuous professional development practices for enhancing their existing knowledge and skills and learn more about new skills and attain knowledge (Ginzburg et al., 2018). Continuous professional development practices are considered to be of great importance for the effective achievement of professional and personal goals (Karagianni and Jude Montgomery, 2018). In this regard, it can be predicted that the ambitious leaders might formulate a professional development plan including short-term, medium-term and long-term goals. With short-term goals, the leaders are able to proceed towards attaining their long-term goals thereby achieving their professional and personal targets. Also, medium-term goals are established for minimising the effectiveness of proceeding towards achieving long-term goals. Once an individual attains short and medium-term goals, it becomes easier to gain long-term goals (Iordanoglou, 2018). Concerning this, it can also be stated that leaders are able to accomplish their professional targets only when they are aware of their inadequate skills which they can mitigate. Besides, great leaders are aware of their strengthen areas which they can implement in working practice. Therefore, it can be indicated that individuals need to take measures for developing effective leadership skills.

In this context, it is analysed that functions of leaders inculcate delegating tasks and directing their followers for achieving the established goals. However, when a leader is unaware of their responsibilities or is incapable of attaining a sense of direction towards accomplishing the objectives then it affects organisational performance (Sowcik et al., 2018). Also, leaders are required to analyse various situations within the organisation following which they need to take measures in a skilful way. This leadership behaviour can be attained through either training sessions or attending seminars regarding leadership skill development. Besides this, the leaders are also required to attain behaviours like relation behaviour, task behaviour and change behaviour so that decisions are made efficiently as per the requirement of situation or tasks. In the context of change, the leaders are individuals who communicate the urgency of change and form an efficient team to implement the same effectively. Coupling to this, it can be cited that leaders are required to be influential and inspiring so that people working under their supervision gain encouragement for completing their tasks adequately.

Efficient leaders perform activities based on their words which help them to become a role model for their followers. The mistakes made by the leaders are to be addressed without any hesitation and also communicate the same to the followers such that they do not similar mistakes (Guzmán et al., 2020). This makes the leaders a guide and is considered effective in accomplishing the set target with adequate assistance of the followers. Also, adaptation to different situations is further regarded to be another potential skill of leaders (Bergman et al., 2019). For this, it can be proposed that the upcoming leaders might gain knowledge from their experienced seniors. This can help them to be proactive during their role as a leader.Individuals who aim at becoming efficient leaders are able to attend different workshops that provide information about great leadership skills with several examples of the same. In addition, seminars can be attended whereexisting leaders share their experiences including positive as well as negative aspects. The aforementioned points can be regarded to be beneficial for the upcoming leaders or the ones who aim at becoming effective leaders in their future career.

Relating to the above-mentioned points, it can be highlighted that leadership skills can be learnt through a variety of strategies and are not gained by birth. Knowledge transfer sessions in organisations can also be considered effective for developing leadership skills adequately (Cansoy, 2017). However, there might be individuals who need more time and learning sessions for attaining leadership skills and knowledge (Toledo et al., 2019). Concerning this, it can be recommended that these individuals might implement a strategy of producing personal development plan. It is believed that by the following personal development plan, the aspiring leaders can achieve their target of becoming examples of great leaders.Hence, implementing the aforementioned practices in the above discussion, individuals are able to become effective leaders.
