Operation management is key business practice for establishing highest level of efficiency in an organization. Along with that, it consists of different steps such as planning as well as organizing and controlling based on which assist in evaluating positive outcome. In case of improving operational process of an organization, it is essential to develop an effective organizational culture. Operating management is important to enhance employee performance and overall productivity of an organization. 

The current report sheds light on performance and culture related initiatives of Costco. Along with that, it demonstrates the way of engaging employees within Costco for the purpose of enhancing productivity. 

Performance related initiatives 

Management group of Costco is enough concerned in providing sufficient training based on job role and responsibility to all employees for ensuring positive outcome. Along with that, senior manager of Human resource department provides training to all employees on weekly basis so that they are able to perform well (td.org, 2018). The company has taken significant initiatives such as proper strategy regarding training and development for the purpose of enhancing operational performance. As per views of Sung and Choi (2014, p.397), development of workforce plan ensures higher skill and knowledge of employees which have positive impact on productivity. Due to which, management group of the company has already established proper business strategy regarding the  way of providing training and solving queries of employees on weekly basis. This assists in evaluating positive outcome and enhancing productivity of Costco. Leadership skill is key significant factor of enhancing organizational performance due to encouraging them regarding performance (td.org, 2018).

Management group of Costco has already recruited new skilled and experienced senior manager of the operational department who is concerned in guiding employees at the times of need. Leaders of the company are enough concentrated in motivating employees by listening their problems related to job and solving all problems consecutively. In order to maintain work-life balance within the organization, senior manager of HR department sends an article related to importance of maintaining productive work-life balance to all employees on weekly basis (mitsloan.mit.edu, 2018). Thus, it assists in enhancing employee performance which affect significantly on organizational efficiency. Apart from training and development, senior manager of HR department of Costco provides award and recognition to employees on their performance basis which influence organizational performance (mitsloan.mit.edu, 2018). As opined by Konings and Vanormelingen (2015, p.487), providing great support and reward to most talented and creative employees is significant way of enhancing organizational performance. 

Culture related initiatives 

Connection culture of Costco is most significant reason of achieving higher success and developing an effective working environment. Along with that, connection culture of the company consists of different significant factors such as mission as well as value and reputation which affect positively on working environment (ethicalsystems.org, 2018). As per views of Konings and Vanormelingen (2015, p.489), in order to enhance employee performance as well as productivity of an organization, it is essential to maintain an effective organization culture which includes strong relationship between hierarchy and employees. Senior manager of HR department of Costco is enough concerned in giving values of different views of employees and maintaining strong relationship with employees (mitsloan.mit.edu, 2018). Due to which, the company has already taken an initiatives of inspiring vision related to organizational goals. Senior members of the company conducts weekly basis meeting for incorporating all employees and discussing with them regarding definite goals and vision (td.org, 2018). In the following context, it can be demonstrated that it is easier for employees to gather significant knowledge regarding the way of fulfilling business goals. During meeting, senior managers inspire all employees by indicating the appropriate path through which organizational goals can be fulfilled (ethicalsystems.org, 2018). Managers of Costco always behave with employees like family members and represent positive factor including positive attitude and ethical consideration (costco.com, 2018). 

Senior managers of the company are enough concerned in conducting the business process legally through which they maintain regular basis review of operational process. The company has taken strong initiatives of improving organizational culture which is maintenance of strong relationship between lower level of staff and hierarchy (ethicalsystems.org, 2018). Based on which, senior managers of management group of Costco is able to take strategic action at the time of facing challenging situation. Management group of the company has taken initiatives of promoting passion and integrity among all employees which assist in ensuring higher trusts of customers regarding quality of products (Refer to appendix 1). 

Engagement related initiatives 

Senior managers of the management group of Costco incorporate all employees at the time of conducting meeting for discussing about organizational goals. The company has taken strong initiatives such as providing health and emotional support to employees which assist in engaging all employees (mitsloan.mit.edu, 2018). Due to enhancing encouraging employees, senior managers of Costco provide value to different views of employees and take strategic decision based on views. Sharing decision making is most significant way of enhancing employee engagement which affects positively on operational performance of Costco (costco.com, 2018). Keeping this factor in mind, HR department of the company is concentrated in incorporating all employees at the time of decision making so as to gather different views based on business process (ethicalsystems.org, 2018). Thus, it helps in taking appropriate business strategy and fulfilling organizational goals. Employees get the right of saying own view regarding business process during meeting due to having open-door policy of Costco. 

Apart from that, manager of HR department takes care of emotional as well as physical needs of employees which assist in engaging employees. Along with that, employee motivation and employee engagement both are most significant action taken by the company to enhance operational performance (td.org, 2018). Due to motivating employees by providing chance to speak at the time of conducting meeting, employees are encouraged to perform well (ethicalsystems.org, 2018). Based on the reason, organizational performance is growing significantly of the company. Thus, Costco is able to enhance productivity and achieve success in competitive market.

Providing value and right to speak are two great initiatives taken by management group of Costco for enhancing employee engagement within the organization. In addition to that, focusing on employee satisfaction and internal collaboration are significant aspects of the organization to survive in the competitive market (mitsloan.mit.edu, 2018). Part time and full time employees both get opportunity of health policy as well as promotion and increment which are reasons of employee engagement (ethicalsystems.org, 2018). 

 

Management group of Costco needs to establish smaller weekly positive goals which might assist employees in performing well. Along with higher amount of wages, managers of the company need to focus on fixing working timing for daily basis so as to reduce pressure on employees. Thus, employee would feel greatest satisfaction to be a part of Costco. 

Leader must motivate to an individual at a time rather than motivating all employees. It would assist employees in gathering knowledge regarding vision and business objectives. Along with employee collaboration, management group of Costco needs to maintain positive communication such as sharing positive views at the time of face to face conversation with employees. In order to maintain an effective organizational culture, senior managers of hierarchy needs to establish specific career path for all employees through job roles and responsibilities. Thus, employee engagement might be enhanced significantly within the organization. Creativity must be strategic technique of the company to enhance employee performance which might have positive impact on efficiency of the organization. Managers need to share positive views and innovative ideas with employees so that they might be able to fulfill business objectives. Apart from that, company needs to plan happy hour on every Friday so that employees feel happy in doing work. Thus, it would assist in engaging employees.
