Caring in Nursing Classics (Outline for my personal philosophy of care)

Care is a basic trait of complex organisms. It is based on the idea of intentionality. It has to involve compassion and love. Understanding the caring process involves studying the various aspects related to the patient and the hospital management.

A.        Human needs nursing theory appeals to me as it helps in identifying the key areas where attention is required by the patient. The theory of bureaucratic caring by Dr. Marilyn Ray is appealing due to the fact that it establishes care, love and compassion as integral human values that are so vital for nursing profession. It encourages one to relate to the patient from different aspects so as to fulfill spiritual-ethical motives of this profession. Mid-range nursing theories can be verified and can include a number of variable factors. I consider theory of bureaucratic caring as appropriate for advanced nursing practice as it deals with the subject as a whole and describes the various aspects of nursing with respect to the nurse staff, patients and the management. It enables one to understand and comprehend a patient’s situation. It does not describe caring as an act to practice but rather as a human value that can be realized in a spiritual-ethical way.

B.        Thesis statement for Personal theoretical framework for nursing will include selecting a nursing theory like theory of bureaucratic caring and then studying about the author and the original cases involving the people, the methods employed, the motives and the results.
