Abstract

Today, with increased use of different energy sources, it is found that majority of the buildings are consuming around 72 percent of electricity resources, 39 percent of total energy resources, and also 17 percent of freshwater flows. Hence, to preserve the energy and also considering the present challenges of global warming, researchers have recommended deploying sustainability building design and construction practices. It will include creation of structures that will be resource-efficient and will also overcome the issues of indoor environmental quality.

For this purpose, the concept of green environment is recommended that can be defined as a green construction that will make sure of sustainability of the construction throughout a building's life cycle. It also refers to the application of processes that are environmentally responsible and will mainly focus on protecting the occupant's health and improving the productivity of all those people that will stay within those buildings.

Introduction

Today, buildings on a global basis are found to be using several resources of energy, electricity, materials, and water. Hence, to cut down the emissions of the greenhouses gases in the different process, and also to overcome the challenges of carbon dioxide in the present environment, researchers have recommended deploying the concept of sustainable development (Hernández-Moreno et al., 2017).

It will make sure of optimizing the site potential, will focus on optimizing energy usage, and will also conserve water and other natural resource. It will thereby control waste, regulate the entire construction process from the beginning till end, and thereby save on the natural resources in a given environment.

Conclusion

It is important to develop sustainable goals in the construction industry that will allow the users as well as the developers to have a control on the usage of the different energy resources, focus on environmental protection, reduce dependence on non-renewable sources of energy, reduce emissions and atmospheric pollutants in a given environment, and thereby enhance the ecosystems in a given environment (Ogden, 2014).

It will reduce sold water, will improve air and water quality, will focus on conservation of natural resources, will reduce the operational costs, enhance asset value, improve employee productivity, and also provide health and community benefits in a given environment. It is thereby important to focus on the planning phase of this concept and achieve desired level of sustainability in a given environment.
