Preparing Code of Ethics

Today, with increased challenges in the internal and external working environment, the criminal justice agencies need to formulate the Code of Ethics that will guide the team members to follow the principles of ethics in their daily routine activities in the organization. Further, it is also found that the issues of unethical practices have increased across the departments of criminal justice organizations (Justice& Meares, 2014).

Hence, there is a need to devise the Code of Ethics that will guide the employees to follow the ethical principles in their daily routine activities in a given work environment. The Code of Ethics devised for the Criminal Justice Agency will have eight elements that include - ethics, integrity, trust, training, teamwork, leadership, recognition, and communication.

These elements will not only bridge the gaps of the current practices in the criminal justice agencies but will also make sure that there are no unethical breaches taking place in a given working environment (Justice& Meares, 2014). However, it is also important to train the staff on these eight elements so that they can deploy them in their daily work routines in the respective organization.

Including specific elements in Code of Ethics

The selected entity of the Criminal Justice for this case scenario is the law enforcement agencies as they will be the first point of contact of any given criminal incident in a given environment. It includes the police department, the crime investigation team, and in some cases, the forensic team as well.

Each of the employees belonging to these different departments of the criminal justice agency need to follow the foundation principles of ethics as mentioned above. It will help them follow the principles of integrity, trust, teamwork, leadership, work recognition, and also effective communication (Saperstein, Penner, & Kizer, 2014).

Today, with increased challenges in the work environment, it is found that these agencies will be facing different ethical challenges at the workplace. Hence, to foster fairness, openness, and sincerity in their work, these employees need to follow these principles and values of ethics. It will not only assist them overcome the unethical situations but will also help them solve the problems of ethics at their workplace. They will subsequently be able to improve their overall working behavior in a given environment from the ethical perspective.

Foundation for Ethical Behavior

It is important for all the employees of the Criminal Justice Agency to follow the principles of ethics and demonstrate ethical behavior to provide proper justice to the victims of the given criminal cases.

Ethics is the discipline concerned with good and bad in a given situation. Hence, the employees will be required to demonstrate good behavior by following the principles of values, morale, honesty, fairness, and adherence to the given facts in a given environment. Trust is another important element that needs to be followed to ensure proper ethical conduct in a given organization (Lofstrom& Raphael, 2016).

Hence, to foster ethical values, it is important to train this workforce on the different ethical principles and subsequently make them productive in a given working environment. It will also ensure effective teamwork among all the team members that will further result into quicker and better solutions to the given problems. They will thereby streamline majority of the processes of the Criminal Justice system and even people of the community will place their trust in them.

The effective communication among all the members will further bridge the gaps and will ensure competition of the assigned tasks within the given timeframe and as per the expectations of the organization.

Officer's Standpoint in deploying Code of Ethics

It is important for all the officers and rest of the staff in a given Criminal Justice Organization to follow the code of ethics to make sure that they deliver as per the expectations of the senior management (Lofstrom& Raphael, 2016).

Further, it will also make sure the employees are fair and will not involve their personal bias in their practices. They will be professional and respectful in their duties toward the organization. They will be transparent and honest in all their daily routine activities in the organization. Also, they will verify all the evidences first for the given case and only then submit the entire file to the Criminal Justice System.

Agency's Standpoint in deploying Code of Ethics

On the other hand, from the agency's standpoint, the importance of Code of Ethics is vital as they need to make sure of following the principles such as - openness, transparency, accountability, empowerment, safety and security, peacefulness, be truthful and fair in the investigation processes, and subsequently follow the ethical principles in a given environment (Lofstrom& Raphael, 2016).

With recent challenges in the work environment from the ethical perspective, it is found that the agency need to deploy the Code of Ethics at their workplace and train the employees in a given direction. They need to be trained so that they can follow these practices in their daily working activities in a given work environment.

Training and Follow-up

The purpose of training the employees is to make them learn about the principles of ethics and thereby make them realize what is right and what is wrong. Second, it is important for the employees to adhere to the legal regulations, and thereby manage their activities in a given environment.

By training the employees in this direction, it will make sure of performing justice to the victims of the given criminal cases (Lofstrom& Raphael, 2016). Further, there is also a need to make a follow-up of these training routines so that the HR management can later evaluate the performance of the employees in a given environment.
