Introduction

Today, with increased challenges in the global environment, it is found that the organizations are planning to change their management models and working frameworks in the organization. However, the top-level management also needs to consider their vision and mission statements so that they do not get diverted from it and can remain focused on those objectives.

The vision of the organization will provide the strategic direction to the organization and will also set the context under which all the strategies need to be implemented (Weindorf, 2013). Further, it will also provide knowledge to the employees about the key organizational objectives and the middle-level management based on that will be preparing the blueprint of all the functional strategies of the organization.

Thus, the employees will be able to decide on what needs to be done, how it needs to be done, and how they can deliver the assigned tasks within the expected timeframe in a given working environment.

The role of the Human Resources (HR) department is vital as they will be formulating the strategies for employee communication and employee development in a given environment (Weindorf, 2013). This report will discuss the importance of vision and mission of P&G and will subsequently evaluate how well P&G is performing as per their vision statement in a given competitive environment.

Organization Background

P&G resembles to the Procter and Gamble Company, which is one of the leading American multinational consumer goods corporation. The headquarters of the company are located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company was founded in 1837 by British American William Proctor and Irish American James Gamble. The company is dealing into a wide range of personal care, consumer health, and hygiene products. These products are organized into several segments including grooming, beauty, healthcare, home care, fabric, family care, and even baby care. As per the financial reports of the company of 2017, the total revenues of P&G were around US $65.06 billion. Further, the total number of employees working in the organization is around 95,000.  They are serving in several parts of the world except for Cuba and North Korea.

The role of the operations management team and the marketing team are important as they need to follow the strategic vision and mission of the organization and accordingly implement the working strategies on a daily basis in a given working environment. Further, they need to make sure of overcoming the workplace challenges and make sure that they can increase the customer base and subsequently the market share in a given environment.

Organization's Vision and Mission

The vision of the organization is to be able to get recognized as the best consumer products and services company in the entire world. For this purpose, they have deployed different mechanisms to achieve the required objectives of the organization in a given environment.

On the other hand, the mission statement of the organisation is to provide branded products and services of superior quality that will improve the lives of the consumers around the world. They are also developing products to meet the expectations of the future generations. The top-level management of the organization is thereby focusing on the aspects of value creation that will allow their shareholders and other stakeholders of a given community to prosper.

It is due to these reasons that they have focused on the aspects of quality management in the organization. They also concentrate on the values of integrity, leadership, passion for winning, trust, and ownership in a given working environment. The top-level management of the organization wants to develop products that will improve the lives of the generations to come. It is due to these reasons that they have deployed different mechanisms and management frameworks to improve the quality of goods served in a given market scenario (Simon, 2015).

There are several benefits of formulating vision and mission for the organization. It will provide employees with a purpose on how to perform and what to perform in the organization. The HR team will be able to allocate the sources accordingly across all the departments of the organization. Also, it will define the major values and subsequently will define the organizational culture.

The employees will be able to perform on the pre-determined strategies and finally will be able to deliver the tasks in a given environment (Simon, 2015). In addition, the top-level management of the organization will be able to assess their objectives from the aspects of cost, time, and performance and accordingly modify the strategies wherever required.

Evaluating whether Organization is living the mission

The vision and mission will define the roadmap of the organization based on which all the departments will be formulating their strategies in the organization. However, it is important for the top-level management to define the vision in a way that will define the future goals of the organization. Second, these goals need to be broad and future-oriented so that employees can work accordingly on it in a given environment (Franklin&Alzouebi, 2014). Second, the mission statement will be providing more details about the products and services that they will be offering in a given environment. Also, it will share an image of the organization in the future.

Thus, the top-level management of the organization will get a better clarity about their future plans and accordingly they will be framing the strategies in the organization. The purpose of defining mission of the organization is to define the purpose of the organization (Franklin&Alzouebi, 2014). It will define the key strategic priority areas within the environment and will also define the major strategic objectives of the organization.

In this case of P&G, it is found that the top-level management of the organization is focusing on the aspects through which they will be able to manufacture new products that will exceed the expectations of the customers. Second, they have implemented different quality management mechanisms for the purpose of achieving desired vision and mission in the organization(Franklin&Alzouebi, 2014). They are not only focusing on the aspects of sales growth but also on margin improvement as well as asset efficiency in a given working environment.

In addition, the Operations team of the organization has implemented a specific strategic planning cycle to achieve desired outcomes in a given environment. In order to meet the changing needs and demands of the customers, there is a need to focus more on their strengths that include - diversified product portfolio, global operations, and strong distribution network(Martínez, Pérez, & Del Bosque, 2014).

With increased social media engagement strategies that will be able to overcome the challenges in a given market. And, finally, to overcome competition, they will be using quality management and marketing management initiatives to achieve the desired objectives in a given competitive environment. It will thereby align their strategic initiatives toward the vision and mission of the organization.

However, the top-level management of P&G needs to monitor the different strategies through different performance criteria (Martínez, Pérez, & Del Bosque, 2014). They can thereby determine the gaps in the current practices and accordingly suggest them with modifications. It will help them achieve the desired objectives of the future.

Performance of the Organization as per the Mission

It is important to evaluate the mission of P&G based on their statement and the current performance in a given working environment. To translate the vision and mission of the organization in the strategic objectives, the top-level management at P&G first focused on the consumer understanding in a given environment. They will be identifying the major needs of the consumers accordingly will be working with the operations management team to decide on the product marketing and new product launching(Martínez, Pérez, & Del Bosque, 2014).

Second, they will be putting more focus on brand building and go-to-market capabilities with an objective to capture additional market share in a given competitive environment. To improve the scaling efficiency, the marketing department will be focusing on the values of customers and accordingly will assist the operations team to drive efficiency across the organization(Martínez, Pérez, & Del Bosque, 2014). It will thereby allow the top-level management to achieve their desired vision and mission in a given working environment.

Recommendations

It is important for any organization to formulate vision and mission for the organization. It will provide them with a roadmap on how to move ahead in the future. Also, it will inform employees of the organization about the major organizational objectives and a basis for organizing work in a given environment (George& Reed, 2016).

They will thereby work accordingly as per the instructions of the middle-level management and will deliver required products and services to the customers. In this case of P&G, the different functional teams are working as per the vision and mission of the organization. They are not only focusing on the organizational objectives but are also focusing on the work approaches of the organization (Bolton, Brunnermeier, &Veldkamp, 2013).

However, it is the responsibility of the HR department to monitor the outcomes, to monitor the practices of the employees, and to monitor the performance of the different departments based on the vision and mission of the organization. It will thereby allow them to make necessary changes wherever required. It is necessary for P&G to obtain feedback from the customers and accordingly modify their strategies to meet the organizational objectives in a given environment.

Conclusion

This report discusses on the importance of vision and mission in the organization. It defines the organizational culture and sets the tone for working in the organization. In addition, the top-level management of the organization while formulating these statements need to take into account the different needs of different stakeholders of the organization (Borland&Lindgreen, 2013).

It will thereby help them fulfill the desired needs of them and serve beyond their expectations in a given working environment. It will also empower employees to perform as per the needs of the organization; on the other hand, the leaders will be performing as per the leadership values as inculcated in a given organizational culture (Borland&Lindgreen, 2013).

The vision will be focusing on those aspects that will help the management team to succeed whereas the mission will be focusing on the reasons that the employees will be working on to achieve those objectives. The strategies for the different departments will be formulated later to make sure of completing the allocated tasks and also achieve desired objectives in a given environment.
