Introduction 

IBM leaders are the central to their transformation journey. Leaders of this organization can be identified or found at all the levels of the association. On a similar note, leadership process of the IBM can go through their leaders’ ability, influence process along with efficacy in order to inspire then that the organization is reinventing itself properly. On the other hand, this reinventing process is going within IBM organization in order to lead in the era of cognitive computing structure. With this, it also helps to drive brand new business value in the organization. This current assignment mainly sheds light on the leadership problems of IBM and the procedure to resolve all those issues. In addition to this leadership concept, followership process also can be discussed in this assignment.

Part 1: Leadership Problem of IBM

The leadership problem is one of the major factors that affect the business process of an organization in an effective way. In the same way the leadership problems that have been found within the IBM organization is communication gap between the leaders and employees. In addition, the communication gap is one of the major issues that can affect the business process of an organization directly. Moreover, it has been evident that the IBM can face several leadership problems such as financial management, monitoring performance, and lack of technology, poor customer service and others (Northouse, 2017). Due of lack of technology, the employees of IBM will not be able to perform in an effective way. Moreover, the organization will also face some problems in enhancing their business process due to lack of technology.  In the same context, the authorities of IBM will also not be able to hire potential employees due to lack of communication skills. 

It has also been identified that communication skill is one of the most important aspect for the development of an organization. The company IBM will also not be able to manage their financial statements due to improper leadership management (forbes.com, 2018). On that note, the organization IBM will also not be able to develop the performance of the employees. In addition, the authorities of the organization will also face some problems to motivate the employees. Due to lack of motivation, the employees will not be able to perform well for the development of the organization. Furthermore, the organization may face several problems due to lack of leadership such as inspiring others, developing employees, enhancing managerial effectiveness, managing a team and controlling the internal stakeholders (Crain, 2015).

Inspiring others- Due to the problem of leadership within the organization, the authorities of the firm will not be able to inspire the employees in order to enhance their performance. Therefore, the organization IBM will also face some problems in earning profits from the global business market.  

Developing employees- Due to lack of leadership, the organization IBM will also not be able to develop the performance of the employees. In addition, due to poor performance of the employees, the organization will not be able to attain a sustainable position within the international market. Moreover, the authorities of the company will also not be able to make critical decision for the development of the company. Furthermore, the organization of the company IBM will also not be able to enhance the business process of the firm (Van Wart, 2014).

Enhancing managerial effectiveness- The organization IBM will also not be able to enhance the managerial function of the organization due to lack of leadership. In addition, the enhancing the managerial effectiveness is the challenge of developing relevant skills likes decision-making, time management and others.

Managing a team- Due to lack of leadership, the company IBM will not be able to manage a team in an effective way. In addition, due to lack of proper team management, the authorities of the organization will not be able to maintain a sustainable position.

 Part 2: Literature review

Leadership concepts and theories that are related with IBM for managing the leadership process

In most of the organizations, good leaders are made not born. With this perspective it can be assumed that in the IBM organization all the leaders of this organization is mainly follow the transformational leadership theory in order to bring different innovation within in the organization and the leaders would be able to develop the business strategy (Van Wart, 2014). On the other hand, transformational leadership theory can help the leaders of IBM to understand the employees’ situation and resolve all the issues of them, which they can face while they are doing their respective tasks. On a similar note, by utilizing the transformational leadership theory of the management team and leaders of IBM it has been found that in the year of 2015 the organization a transformational leadership in IBM has been characterized properly (Lane, Bird & Athanassiou, 2017). Based on thought administration from senior leaders of IBM, different trends have been recognized by outer specialists and ability from the Executive and Leadership Development groups that the organization has distinguished in many practices that will help IBM reclassify itself. The association has settled on the several conscious decisions to step far from the competency models that the leaders have utilized previously and move to a system that is dynamic, liquid and fits where they are in our transformational venture or journey (forbes.com, 2018). In the same way as the organization has progressed, the leadership practices would be changed. The management team of IBM mainly trusts that the kinds of practices depicted in the Transformational Leadership Framework (TLF) are basic to building a skillful culture along with revolving their organization to cloud and psychological arrangements (Lane, Bird & Athanassiou, 2017).

On the other hand, with the proper help of transformational theory the organization leaders would be able to work with their team members in order to recognize needed change factors of their organizational objectives. The IBM higher authority propelled the TLF with IBM's best officials so they could show others how they can do and afterward impart these practices inside their associations and crosswise over IBM. With this, leaders of the IBM who are following the transformational leadership process are stimulated by the fast advancement they have made and how TLF has assembled administration improvement factor of IBM (Crain, 2015).

Concepts and theories concerned with follower-ship 

Followership is said to be the actions of someone belonging to a subordinate role. It is often considered as a specific set of skills that help in complementing leadership, which is described as a role within a hierarchical organization. It is said to be a social construct and is also said to be integral in relation to the leadership processes or it may also be said that it is integral to the behaviors that are engaged during the interaction with the leaders for meeting the objectives of the organization. On the other hand, followership may be explained as an international practice on the subordinate’s part in order to enhance the synergetic interchange that takes place between the leader and the follower. Followers are mainly the subordinates who possess fewer powers as compared to their superiors (Uhl-Bien, Riggio, Lowe & Carsten, 2014).  

Theory of followership- According to Barbara Kellerman, followers may be divided into 5 categories, such as, Bystanders, Isolates, Activists, Participants and Diehards.

Bystanders- The followers who fall in the category of Bystanders mainly observes and they do not tend to participate in any kind of activities. The Bystanders do not even care about their leaders and they do not have any idea about their leaders. They mainly do not want to get involved in any kind of program where their leaders are associated and they do not want to get engage with the group dynamic (Eden, 2018). 

Isolates- This group of followers are said to be detached completely from their group. They also do not care anything about their leaders and they do not even give response to anything. 

Activists- This group of followers are said to have a strong attachment with their leaders and they tend to act as per the instruction of their leaders. This group is said to be the most energetic group and eager and also engaged towards their work. They even work on behalf of their leaders in order to achieve the objectives of the company.  

Participants- The group of participants are said to be engaged in some other way with their work in the company. They either favour or oppose their groups, organizations and leaders of the team they are belonging to. However, in both of the cases they tend to invest resources and try for making an impact (Epitropaki, Kark, Mainemelis & Lord, 2017).  

Diehards- The group of diehards are said to be prepared for dying if necessary and they are devoted to their leaders. On the other hand, they are capable of removing the leader from their power of authority. However, they are mainly defined by the dedication of them towards their work (Gilstrap & Morris, 2015). 

Concepts and theories concerned with management 

There are generally different meanings associated with the term “management’. Sometimes, the terms refers to the processes involved with organizing, directing, planning, staffing, controlling and coordinating. On the other hand, management is also referred to as a term that is associated with managing the people of an organization. It is also defined as a discipline and a practice or sometimes termed as a body of knowledge. In a deeper sense, management is referred to as the skills of making others do the work in a proper manner. 

Principles of Management of Henri Fayol

The principles of Henri Fayol are considered as the guidelines that helps a manager in their management actions and also in terms of decision-making. 

Division of work- In a particular workplace, the employees are said to be specialized in different fields along with different skills, which they possess. Therefore, the manager is required to divide their work and put them to the departments where they will be able to work efficiently. Also, the specialization of workforce helps in increasing the speed and accuracy of the employee (Barkema, Chen, George, Luo & Tsui, 2015). 

Authority and responsibility- In order to get the jobs completed on time in an appropriate manner, the management is said to have the authority to give orders to the employees and make them do the work efficiently. Again, with authority comes responsibility. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the managers to see whether they will be able to complete the job or not.

Remuneration- Productivity and motivation is said to be directly proportional. In order to get more productivity, the managers need to provide their employees with high remuneration. The remuneration that are paid to the employees need to be sufficient for them in order to receive productivity from them. 

Equity-  It states that the employees need to be treated in an equal manner. They need to be provided with the right place in order to be in the right place in the organization in order to do their job in an efficient manner (Hibbert & Cunliffe, 2015).  

Part 3: Lessons learned

In my opinion, leadership is an important factor that is required for the purpose of leading a team towards success. Therefore, it is important that the leader of a company is selected by taking proper tests of the person who will be appointed as the leader of the team. In case of IBM, the leaders are said to be found in all or most of the levels of the organization. However, I have seen that there are a number of issues related to the practices of leadership and sometimes the team members faces a number of challenges due to the leader for their improper practices of leadership, for which the team members suffer with their jobs. 

I have also learned that the leaders are required to follow a number of processes and steps, which will help them to motivate their team members in a better manner. On the other hand, I also think that the leaders of a company need to be selected according to their character and personality. It will help in developing a better team, because, a leader with a good personality and characteristics will be able to guide the team members in an appropriate manner and will also be able to motivate them in doing their work in an efficient manner and the team members will also listen to their leader. A leader has a number of responsibilities, which they are required to perform within their workplace in order to achieve success for the company, for which the leaders need to guide their members properly so that they are able to perform in a proper manner in the organization. In accordance to me, a leader needs to possess a number of qualities for managing a team efficiently. Thus, the organizations are required to test properly before appointing someone for the post of a leader, as the leaders play one of the most important role in maintaining the performance of an organization (Banks, Ledbetter & Greenhalgh, 2016). 

Integration of faith and leadership practices- 

In my opinion, faith and leadership mainly aims at strengthening and improving the practices associated with Christian leadership through the interview processes with the transformational leaders and from stories and articles, which defines clearly regarding the integration of faith and leadership. I think it is said to be one offering concerned with the education of leadership. I have learned that the main purpose of faith and leadership is to cultivate thriving communities, which are mainly the signs of the reign of God. it also tends to engage a number of designs of leadership education, a number of disciplines and also tend to deliver services associated with education that has the ability to develop other capacities, which are interrelated. 

In accordance to me, Leaders education is said to be working in partnership with the leaders who are Christian by their religion and the ones who are said to be leading the organizations that helps in shaping and supporting them. I think, Christ-shaped leadership is mainly regarding the development of Christian background in order to develop Christian practices and thoughts by their habits and develop it as the second nature concerned with the particular organization. However, I think that integration of faith in leadership may be helpful for a number of organizations as it is said to be a healthy practice in an organization. It also helps in increasing the productivity of the company. Therefore, according to me, integration of faith in leadership is effective in organizational performance and it is also effective in enhancing the performance of the team. Increasing productivity helps in the profitability of the company, which is somewhat related to the performance of the leaders in an organization (McMahone, Locke & Roller, 2015).   

Conclusion 

From the above illustration, it may be concluded that the current assignment mainly focuses on the leadership issues associated with the company of IBM, where the assignment has provided a brief description of the issues that the employees in IBM faces due to their leadership practices in the organization. After this section, the next section is said to be the literature review section that has discussed the concepts and theories associated with management, leadership and followership. These theories and concepts help in understanding the role of management, leadership and followership in an organization. Lastly, there is a reflection provided in the assignment that discusses the lessons that has been learned through the entire assignments and the articles and the importance of integration of faith in leadership.
